BELTANE....the celebration of May festivals demonstrates how Pagans survived the Christianization of the British Isles. The "May Queen" is simply a disguise of the Goddess. Even the Maypole, the very heart of the holy day, is a symbolic merger of soft feminine ribbons playfully winding around an erect and receptive phallus.
Traditionally celebrated May Eve at sundown or on May 1st. On the Witches' calendar, Beltane is the beginning of Summer, the first of four Celtic fire festivals.
